Following two amazing events in Cape Town and Johannesburg, as we as Douala and Nairobi, the True Music Africa Tour is coming back to South Africa for its inaugural Pretoria show.
Boiler Room x Ballantine’s True Music today announce Pretoria, South Africa as one of the stops for True Music Africa, a tour that unearths pioneering, self-starting talent and their stories of doing it for themselves within the underground music scene.
A first for Boiler Room and Ballantine’s, the inaugural True Music Africa has toured South Africa, Cameroon and Kenya. It’s given a platform to some of the freshest talent the continent has to offer, broadcasting their performances to an audience of more than 15 million people around the world, and sharing the artists’ insights and experiences of their
local music scene via a compelling documentary series.

Africa, a vast and hugely diverse continent – culturally and geographically – is known for its myriad musical styles. From Gqom to Nairobi nu wave and eclectic afro-fusion, True Music Africa is telling the stories of the varied music scenes sweeping the continent and the key self-starting innovators in each space – all via compelling documentaries and live-streamed parties to bring Africa’s True Music scene to a global stage.
Following the fifth stop in Pretoria, True Music Africa will land in Accra, Ghana on 21 March 2019 for another Boiler Room first with an appearance in the coastal capital. Boiler Room x Ballantine’s True Music Africa follows the success of recent global True Music projects, including the global Hybrid Sounds tour and multiple visits to South Africa together.
Boiler Room’s Chief Business Development Officer, Steven Appleyard said of the project: “The award-winning True Music Africa series has become one of our most important, and most rewarding partnerships in the past couple years. We’ve deep-dived into cross- section of vibrant local scenes and been privileged to get to know the new wave of DIY artists from across the continent, introducing new sounds to our global audience. Next up
we’re excited to be heading back to South Africa to discover more about Pretoria house and AmaPiano.”
Ballantine’s Head of Music, Tom Elton, said of the project: “We’re happy to be returning to one of our favourite countries for yet another show. It’s extra exciting for us and Boiler Room as it’s the first time we’ve done a show in Pretoria, a city with a really rich and diverse music scene that fuses some of the best of South Africa’s past, present and future, and we’re really pleased to be shining a light on more of the country’s house music talent.”
Boiler Room x Ballantine’s True Music Africa in Johannesburg is happening on Wednesday 5th November at a secret location. Tune in at www.truemusic.boilerroom.tv to watch the broadcast live.
